Membership Requirements

There are six classes of membership, they include Students, Affiliate Members, Associate Members, Graduate members, Corporate Members and Fellows

The pre-requisite for admission into any of these classes are as follows:

1. Student Member

An applicant for student membership shall be a registered student who is pursuing a course leading to a National/High National Diploma, Bachelor's degree or their equivalent in Chemical Engineering in an approved institution.

2. Affiliate Member

An applicant for Affiliate membership shall be holders of HND, B.Sc or their equivalent in Sciences or Engineering other than Chemical Engineering and must have working experience in Chemical Engineering related fields.

3. Associate Member

An applicant for associate membership shall hold Higher National Diploma or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering. He shall at the time of the application have received or be receiving suitable practical training in Chemical Engineering.

4. Graduate Member

An applicant for graduate membership shall hold Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering. He shall at the time of the application have received or be receiving suitable practical training in Chemical Engineering.

5. Corporate Member

Admission into the class of corporate membership shall be by direct application or by transfer from graduate or associate membership. Any person applying for admission into corporate membership shall satisfy the following conditions:

  1. He shall hold a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Chemical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  2. He shall have acquired practical experience in Chemical Engineering for at least four years. If he holds postgraduate degree in Chemical Engineering he shall be credited with the following years of experience:
    M.Sc. (M.Phil) - One Year; Ph.D. - Three Years
  3. The Society shall examine closely the quality of the engineering experience contained in an applicant's practical training report and at its discretion invite the applicant concerned to appear before a panel of professional competence and suitability for admission to corporate membership. Such interview may involve a written test.

The training report must contain a summary of the applicant's academic and industrial training and his experience in Process Plant Fabrication and Materials Construction, Process Plant Development, Process and Plant Design, Process Plant Operation, Safety, Plant Costing and Economics, Chemical Engineering Equipment Handling/Marketing/Sales and Administration. The report must be certified by the applicant's supervisor.

5. Fellow

Admission into the class of Fellow shall be by transfer from corporate membership. The transfer shall be effected in either of two ways:

1. Direct Application
A member wishing to transfer to Fellow shall fulfill the following conditions:

  1. He shall have been a corporate member for at least 10 years.
  2. He shall have been adjudged to have held position (s) of responsibility in his employment and in the society.
  3. He shall submit a brief report on his practice of Chemical Engineering.
  4. The Chapter Chairman’s recommendation letter must be attached to the application form.

2. Invitation by the Executive Council
A qualified Chemical Engineer may be invited by the Council to become a Fellow of the Society if he has had not less than 20 years experience in the practice of Chemical Engineering. In addition to this, he shall have met one or all of the following conditions:

  1. Have rendered valuable and selfless service to the Society over a period of time and or
  2. Widely acknowledged as an authority in the field of Chemical Engineering.

Honorary Fellow

The Council may at its discretion confer Honorary Fellowship of the Society on distinguished persons who by their positions have made significant contributions to Chemical Engineering practice. Such persons may not necessarily be Chemical Engineers.


Student Membership

Associate Membership

Fellow Membership

15000
  • Corporate member for at least 10 years.
  • Held position(s) of responsibility
  • Report on his/her practice of Chem. Eng.
  • Chapter Chairman’s recommendation letter.
  • Or Invitation by the Executive Council
  • Other fees apply
